MULTI USE BLUSH: NARS ORGASM VS. VAPOUR SPARK

As a long time lover of the Nars Multiple in Orgasm I thought it would be interesting to compare it to a natural multi use blush, Vapour’s Aura Multi Use Blush in Spark 202.

Both these products serve the same function and can be used on eyes, lips and cheeks. I’ve never used either on my eye lids as I don’t tend to wear pink shades there, but it’s nice to know it’s an option and I can imagine both would look nice with blue eyes.

Nars: The colour has more of a golden sheen to it, meaning it illuminates as well as provides colour. There are tiny bits of glitter in it which I’m not usually a fan of, but they’re so subtle and add such a healthy glow I think it’s an integral part of the product! This colour is also great on lips (but I tend to need a lip balm to hand as well as it doesn’t really provide moisture). It’s softer in texture than the Vapour product, but both are fairly easy to sweep on.
Price: £30
Ingredients: Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Capric/Caprylic Stearic Triglyceride, Cetyl Dimethicone, Diisospropyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Silica, Cera Alba (Beeswax) (Beeswax), Candelilla Cera (Euphorbia Cerifolia Wax) (Euphorbia Cerifera), Ozokerite, Nylon 66, Octyldodecanol, Cetyl Palmitate, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A), Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) Extract, Propylparaben, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), May Contain (+/-):, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Chromium Oxide Green (CI 77288), Ultramarines (CI 77007)

Vapour: The Spark 202 is a gorgeous colour for everyday! The colour is subtle yet buildable and lasts incredibly well, more so than the Nars. I don’t use this product on my lips as although the colour is great, I don’t love it on my lips and it’s quite dry. In colour, it’s perhaps slightly peachier than the Nars. I only bought a tester of this product (naturisimo.com) but it comes in similar packaging to the Nars Multiple which winds up and down like a lipstick (but chunkier).
Price: £29
Ingredients: Organic/Bio Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Organic/Bio Cera Alba (Beeswax), Silica, Mica, Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate*, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Essential Oils & Natural Fruit Essences, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Gum**, Organic/Bio Ocimum Sanctum (Tulsi/Holy Basil) ) Leaf Extract, Organic/Bio Nelumbo Nucifera (Lotus) ) Leaf Extract [+/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Carmine (CI 75470)]

The Verdict: Despite the fact these two serve similar functions and are similar in colour, they give slightly different results. I’d describe the Nars Orgasm as glow giver, immediately brightens and adds a subtle healthy colour to the face. It’s amazing for holidays! I think the Vapour is more of an endurance blush, with buildable colour making it a more flexible product, suitable for every day needs. (Price and packaging are very similar).

Which one would I buy? It completely depends on your wants and needs and although I absolutely love the Nars products, for me, I’d get more use out of the Vapour one (plus love the fact it’s organic).

NEAL’S YARD BEE LOVELY BODY LOTION

I think the hand cream in the range is amazing (£10) and I really like the body wash (£14), but I’m afraid the Neal’s Yard Bee Lovely Body Lotion just doesn’t do it for me. Yes, it’s moisturizing and I’m keen on the fact it supports a nature loving charity but I don’t find the citrusy scent that classic in a body lotion, it’s a little chalky to rub in and leaves you a little sticky… It’s also significantly more expensive than the other products in this line.

Price: £21

Ingredients: Cetearyl alcohol, Cetearyl glucoside, Cera alba (Beeswax)*, Citrus sinensis (Orange) peel oil expressed*, Citrus nobilis (Mandarin) peel oil expressed*, Styrax tonkinensis (Benzoin) resin extract*, Mel (Honey)*, Aloe barbadensis (Aloe vera) leaf juice powder*, Tocopherol, Xanthan gum, Alcohol denat.*, Levulinic acid, Sodium levulinate, Potassium sorbate, Sodium dehydroacetate, Citral, Citronellol, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool.

It hasn’t put me off the rest of the Bee Lovely products at all and I’m keen to try the Bee Lovely Busy Bee Balm (£6.50)…. What are your thoughts? Any experiences with this line?

LOVE LULA BOX REVIEW: JANUARY

The Love Lula subscription box is such a great idea! A monthly hit of various beauty products for about £12 a month is a great way to find out what’s on the market and works for you (even if you’re not going to love absolutely every product). I have to admit when I first opened my January box I thought it was a bit of a rogue bunch, but now that I’ve used everything I have to say I’m definitely pleased I signed up for the year… Most of the products exceeded my expectations.

Balance Me Rose Otto Body Cream – I wasn’t blown away by this product. It smells nice and is a perfectly good moisturizer but was a little chalky to put on and for me it’s not worth that price.
Price: £18
Would I buy the full size? Nope

The Konjac Sponge – This strange little guy is hard when it’s dry and soft when wet. I love the fact that you can use it with or without cleanser and it really feels like it cleans your skin.
Price: £6.99
Would I buy it again? Yep

John Masters Organics Blood Orange & Vanilla Body Milk – I actually wasn’t particularly excited about trying this product but was so pleasantly surprised! There’s a very strong scent which I’ve tried to put my finger on and think it’s like a rhubarb sweet… I put this on just before bed and every time I moved I was engulfed in another waft of sweetness which I found a little overpowering! But it went on so easily and moisturized so well (without being greasy) that it was probably my favourite of the bunch.
Price: £18
Would I buy full size? Yes

BiOrganics Hair Therapy Salon Elixir Hair Perfecting Oil – I really liked this! Fairly odorless, it seemed to smooth and condition my hair.
Price: £13
Would I buy full size? Yes

BiOrganics Perfect Balance Rebalancing Shampoo –Like the BiOrganics Oil there’s very little smell and my hair felt very clean after using it. I liked this shampoo but it was nothing to write home about.
Price: £8
Would I buy full size? No

Ever received any particular gems or horrors in a beauty box before?

MY WINTER SKIN REGIME

I have to admit… I think I’m onto a bit of a winner here! Usually the winter wreaks havoc on my skin; dry, inflamed… the works. But this year my skin seems to be coping and I’d say that it’s probably as a result of the following products. Gentle yet effective, my skin's never looked better in the winter months!

MORNING:

1) Dr Alkaitis Organic Purifying Cleanser – I apply this onto a wet face, rub it around and rinse. Hands down the best cleanser I’ve ever used!

Country Mallowº, Turmeric*, China rootº, Costusº, and White Sandalwoodº. Cuscus Grassº, Olive*, Eagle Woodº, Nut Grassº, Bermuda Grassº and Ashwagandhaº. Also added are natural vitamin E complex (D- alpha, beta, gamma and delta tocopherols) and 100% pure Essential Oils*.

2) Dr Alkaitis Soothing Gel - I use this as my toner and massage it into my skin to prep it for moisturizer and reduce inflammation.

Price: £43.50
Ingredients:  Into a base of Organic Aloe Vera Gel* and Witch Hazelº the following organic and wild-crafted herbals are blended: organically grown grape alcohol* (from the fermentation of organically grown grains). Greater Nettle*, Wild Chamomileº, Myrrhº, European Elder*, Sweet Weed*, and French Lavender*. Curacao Orange*, Benzoinº, Rosemary*, Olibanumº, Wild Fennelº, Balm Mint*, Sea Oakº, Atlantic Kelpº and Red Seaweedº. Also added are natural vitamin B and vitamin C complexes and 100% pure essential oils*.

3) Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Day Cream – Massaged onto my face while it’s still damp from the toner (to increase absorption). Smells great, it isn’t too heavy but is so effective and moisturizing!

Price: £13.95
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Prunus Persica (Peach) Kernel Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Rosa Moschata Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Lysolecithin, Sedum Purpureum Extract, Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Extract, Commiphora Myrrha Extract, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Limonene*, Linalool*, Citronellol*, Benzyl Alcohol*, Geraniol*, Citral*, Eugenol*, Farnesol*. *from natural essential oils.

4) Voya Bright Eyes – Massage and dab around my eyes to reduce puffiness etc.

Price: £ 50
Ingredients: Aqua, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-3 Methyglucose, Distearate, Diglycerin, Isononyl Isononanoate, C12-16 Alcohols, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Oenothera Biennis Oil, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Persea Gratissima Oil Unsaponifiables, Tocopherol, Panthenol, Fucus Serratus Extract, Plantago Lanceolata Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Zingiber Officinale Extract, Camelia Sinensis Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Extract, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Oryzanol, Lecithin, Palmitic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Cananga Odorata Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Oil, Coriandrum Sativum Seed Oil, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Oil, Vanilla Planifolia Extract, Vetiveria Zizanoides Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus Oil,

EVENING:

1) Coconut Oil - to remove any traces of makeup rub it around then remove with a cloth.

2) Dr Alkaitis Organic Purifying Cleanser - (as before)

3) Dr Alkaitis Soothing Gel - (as before)

4) Dr Alkaitis Organic Night Cream - Amazing amazing amazing. I put this on after my Dr Alkaitis Soothing Gel and it gently works wonders over night.

Price: £69.50
Ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera Gel*, virgin cold pressed organic Shea butter*, Organic Herbal Skin Repair Complex (composed of the organic herbs Jojoba*, Olive*, Hundred- leaved Rose blossomsº, Wild Carrotº, Echinacea root*, Coltsfoot*, Horsetail*, Water Navelwort*, Marigold blossoms*, and Roman Chamomile flowers*). Vegetable Lecithin*, Citrus seed extract*. Natural complexes of: vitamin E (D- alpha, beta, gamma, delta tocopherols and tocotrienols from Sunflower and Palm oils), vitamin A (from Carrot*, Aztec Marigold*), vitamin B (from Yerba Matº, Chlorella*) and vitamin C (from Camu Camuº, Acerola Cherry*), 100% pure Essential Oils*.

Alpha H Liquid Gold - I primarily use this as my exfoliator and I no longer get those irritating little dry patches associated with winter that foundation only ends up highlighting! I use this about once a week or fortnight after cleansing, and follow it with the soothing gel and moisturizer and it works well.

I was so disappointed when I first got this product. I’d read so many rave reviews and it wasn’t living up to my expectations. I think the key with this product is finding what works for you! At first I used it two or three times a week, after cleansing and without following it with a product. I think this was too much for my sensitive skin to handle…

Price: £31.50
Ingredients: Aqua, Alcohol Denat, Glycolic Acid, Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Silk, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Potassium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol

It’s an expensive bunch but I’ve really found this regime to work which means I’m not constantly buying new products in the hope that they’ll live up to their claims… These already do!

DAY TO NIGHT MAKEUP (NATURAL PRODUCTS)

The other day was my birthday and rather than slog all the way home after a day out, I thought I’d do some makeup that would carry me from day to dinner at Nobu…. Here we go…

Vapour’s Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation S115 all over my face.

Vapour’s Illusionist Concealer 010 in areas that needed concealing (under eyes, round the nose etc.)

Dr Hauschka Compact Powder buffed onto my face to give my foundation some endurance.

Nuxe Bronzer under my cheek bones, onto my temples and a little on nose.

Vapour’s Multi Use Blush Spark 202 tapped and rubbed onto the apples of my cheeks.

Rms Living Luminizer tapped on to highlight the usual areas (cheek bones, cupids bow bridge of nose etc.)

Rimmel’s Scandaleyes 005 Nude Pencil along my waterline.

Dr Hauschka Eye Palette O1 The lightest shade I actually washed over the lid up to the brow bone and under the eye (in the hope it would set my concealer and bring light to this area). The next lightest shade, a kind of nudey taupe I put over my lids and the outer third of my lower lashes. The second darkest shade (slightly greyer than the taupe) I blended into my socket line.

I used a combo of the two darkest shades to fill in my eyebrows.

I then drew a kind of feline flick with Inika Eye Liner 05 Black Caviar starting about half way along my eye, dragging line out and up then going over this with the darkest eyeshadow shade starting at the inner corner of my eye.

For mascara I used a combination of Terry’s Growth Booster Mascara and Max Factor’s 24 hr False Lash Effect Black Mascara, not because it lasts longer than my natural mascaras (I don’t think it does) but because it gives more volume which I love, especially for evening!

I didn't want to do too much with my lips so i just dabbed a little foundation onto them followed by Nuxe Lip Balm.

Birthday Flowers... A Day in The Arts Club...

Some comfy(ish)shoes to take me from day to dinner

(Office Velvet Flatforms)...

A jammy time at Liberty...

I hope you like the look! It’s quite a good’n that I use quite a bit as it works for a variety of occasions.
